The second page of every manuscript must contain the Abstract, which should be a single paragraph of 200 words (full papers and reviews) or 100 words (communications). The Abstract should be comprehensible to readers before they have read the paper and abbreviations and reference citations should be avoided. Introduction The Introduction should be brief but cover the field of the paper, describing previous work and establishing the background for the algorithm/program that is being reported. System and methods This section is the formal equivalent of a 'Materials and methods' section. It should include precise details of the hardware and systems software that is in use, including version numbers and release dates. It is not sufficient to state the language. Special enhancements and additions should be described in detail, particularly if they are designed 'on site' and are otherwise unpublished. Suppliers should be indicated where relevant. Other methods, including biological methods, should be described in full. Algorithm The algorithm section describes the theoretical background to the particular application. If this has been described previously, especially with relevance to the biosciences, it is sufficient to provide a brief description and appropriate citations. Short sections of clear, well annotated code are acceptable if they clarify a particular point. These should be prepared as a figure to avoid typesetting
